Did you know, a child in Sarawak is diagnosed with cancer every 5 days? And the average age of a child diagnosed with cancer is 10 years old?
Did you know that cancer kills more children than all other illnesses combined? And that cancer is the second leading cause of death (following accidents) in children ages 5 - 14?
Did you know that Hospital Kuala Lumpur's oncology unit is the biggest in Malaysia and sees around 180 - 200 new childhood cancer cases a year? That 1 in 5 children diagnosed with cancer will die within 5 years?
Did you know in the past 20 years, there is only 1 new treatment for childhood cancer? That the current treatments are outdated and toxic? Side effects both short and long terms are inhumane. 90% of childhood cancer survivors develop chronic, life long health problems. The survivors are at greater risk of developing secondary cancers. Their overall survival is compromised.
For the month of September, we took the opportunity to join our friends - David Wu and Ving Lee in their #rideforgold journey to the #7wunders of the world to create awareness for #childhoodcancer and to raise #aRinggitaMalaysian for this noble cause.
