We have rounded up all the key long weekends and leave opportunities in Malaysia for 2026 so you can plan ahead, travel more, or simply enjoy extra rest without burning through your leave balance.


Disclaimer: All long weekend suggestions are based on a standard Monday to Friday work schedule.


January and February

New Year’s Day, 1 Jan to 4 Jan (Thu - Sun)

- Take leave on Friday, (2 Jan) and enjoy FOUR days off to kick-start the year right.


Thaipusam, 31 Jan to 2 Feb (Sat - Mon)

- Enjoy THREE days off, or extend your break by using your leaves before and after.


If you work in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, or Labuan, you will also enjoy Federal Territory Day on Sun, 1 Feb, with a replacement holiday on Mon, 2 Feb.


Chinese New Year,14 Feb to 18 Feb (Sat - Wed)

- Take leave on Mon (16 Feb) and enjoy FIVE days off.

or

- Take leave on Mon (16), Thu (19), and Fri (20) and enjoy NINE days off. Perfect to balik kampung.


March

Hari Raya Aidilfitri, 21 Mar to 23 Mar (Sat - Mon)

- Enjoy THREE days off, or extend your break by using your leaves before and after.


May and June

Labour Day, 1 May to 3 May (Fri - Sun)

- Enjoy THREE days off, or extend your break by using your leaves before and after.


Hari Raya Haji, Wesak Day and Agong’s Birthday, 27 May to 2 Jun (Wed - Tue)

- Take leave on Thu (28 May) and Fri (29 May) to enjoy a solid SEVEN days break.


Awal Muharram, 13 Jun to 17 Jun (Sat - Wed) or 17 Jun to 21 Jun (Wed - Sun)

- Take two days of leave either before or after to enjoy FIVE consecutive days off.


August

Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, 22 Aug to 25 Aug (Sat - Tue)

- Take leave on Mon (24 Aug) and enjoy FOUR days off.


National Day, 29 Aug to 31 Aug (Sat - Mon)

- Enjoy THREE days off, or extend your break by using your leaves before and after.


September

Malaysia Day, 12 Sep to 16 Sep (Sat - Wed) or 16 Sep to 20 Sep (Wed - Sun)

- Take two days of leave either before or after to enjoy FIVE days off in a row.


November

Deepavali, 7 Nov to 9 Nov (Sat - Mon)

- Enjoy THREE days off, or extend your break by using your leaves before and after.



December

Christmas Day, 25 Dec to 27 Dec (Fri - Sun)

A THREE days weekend to wind down the year, with the option to stretch it using annual leave.
